Description

Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS is F. Ball’s new temperature tolerant, pressure sensitive vinyl adhesive that combines instant initial grab with ultra-high bond strength to hold vinyl tiles and sheet in place across a huge range of temperatures.

  • Suitable for bonding vinyl floor coverings.
  • Designed for conservatories where floor to ceiling windows are installed and other areas where floor coverings have to be tolerant of extreme temperature variations.
  • Gives a strong initial tack and high bond strength.
  • Suitable for areas that fluctuate between -20 degree to 60 degree.
  • Water resistant - suitable for wet rooms.
  • Average coverage = 12m2 per 2kg tub.
  • Approximately 20 minutes drying time depending on conditions.

What is it, and where is it used?

Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS is F. Ball’s new temperature tolerant, pressure sensitive vinyl adhesive that combines instant initial grab with ultra-high bond strength to hold vinyl tiles and sheet in place across a huge range of temperatures.

It has been designed specifically for use in conditions subject to direct sunlight or extreme fluctuations in temperature, from as low as -20°C and up to +60°C, such as conservatories or heavily glazed areas, and is also suitable for use over normal underfloor heating systems.

Why it is needed

Pressure sensitive adhesives, while offering strong initial tack and an increasing adhesive bond strength as pressure is applied, can be adversely affected in environments subject to high temperature demands. The expansion and contraction of the adhesive when under extreme temperatures can cause it to fail, leading to gapping and ‘tenting’ of the floorcovering. This failure of the flooring installation is not only unsightly, but it also presents a safety hazard.

Alternatively, traditional high temperature adhesives have properties which allow them to be used in areas subject to high temperatures or areas subjected to extreme variations in temperature, such as a modern office building with floor to ceiling windows.

They are typically wet lay adhesives, meaning that floorcoverings are installed when the adhesive is still wet, and floorcoverings applied over this type of adhesive will move around if pressure is applied before it has time to set.

So how does it work?

Styccobond F49 is designed to deliver the best of both worlds: the instant grab and ease of use of a pressure sensitive adhesive, combined with the bond strength associated with two-part epoxy adhesives.

Formulated as a water-based adhesive, the product displays typical pressure sensitive properties once mixed and cures to deliver a very high bond strength to hold vinyl floorcoverings firmly in position.

The water content of the formulation helps to slow down the exothermic (gives out heat) chemical reaction taking place in the mixed adhesive, thereby creating a long open time and making the adhesive easy to work with.
